This book is mostly about freedom or more like creating freedom. This book is about a revolution in a hierarchy. Darrow’s main goals is to achieve equality and freedom for all. No upper classes anymore. This book is mostly about the rising.

But there is another very important theme that comes along with this book. Because of the battles that need to be fought in this book you don’t immediately think about this theme but it`s there. Heroism, there are many heroic action in this book. Darrow is the hero of this book the savior. He is fighting for freedom and isn’t that the one of the most heroic thing you can do?

Next to these two themes one less important theme is probably the contrast between good and bad. Although things get a little blurry because Darrow must do bad things to achieve his goal, the difference between the good and bad colors are highly noticeable.

Also, a story would not be finished if there isn’t a bit of love present. So, a slightly less important theme is love. In the beginning of the book he has a wife who dies but later in the story he`ll fall in love with someone else.
